there is magic
in a frosty winter morning
it’s wrapped in twinkling lights and holly
dancing in bows and wreaths and snow covered trees
there is magic everywhere
in ringing bells and early birdsong
but you won’t find it
unless you are looking
Winter
together
After a long, sweltering summer
fall whisked in and out
colored leaves the only indication of its passing,
and now we sit at the feet of a long, bitter winter
its shadow casting loneliness on our hearts
What can we do
but put on our softest socks and warmest smiles
and walk through the dark together?
in the wake of Jack Frost
it’s a glittering, slushy mess out there
white winter sunlight melts snow mounds into endless puddles
and snowmen into shapeless piles
it glimmers across snow packed by hundreds of feet
and sparkles through ice covered branches
the crowds shuffle silently
and the birds are all asleep
even the frigid winds have stopped whistling
but the quiet of this chilly morning
is broken
by the drip, drip, drip of dirty icicles
bitter winter
some winter days are bitter
with biting wind that makes you work for every step
as your eyes water and your cheeks become windburned
it is easy to hate the cold
but other days
rare, beautiful days;
the sun makes friends with the season
so you can look up into its warmth
and smile,
finding a reason
to appreciate the cold.
White Christmas Wishes
Winter came in with a snap of its fingers-
harsh winds, snowy streets, and skies full of flurries whistled through November.
Now Christmas is here
and we have nothing
but rain.
